It’s an 05 X 4.0L 6-speed manual with only 79,000 miles. It’s pretty well unmolested outside of an aftermarket headunit, fog lights, and CAI. Absolutely zero rust everything that has a rust color is surface rust from being parked outside at the dealership. Everywhere I rubbed that looked like rust fell off like dirt on the surface, no flakes.
New Tan soft top was order by the dealership and should be in this week. Currently replacing the sound system with some equipment I had plus some adapters from Crutchfield.
Factory sub was completely missing the rubber surround. Here it is next to the replacement. Outside of sound system I’m thinking just clean it up a bit on the interior and probably put some 31’s on the stock rims. The front tires have a 2013 date code and the rear are 2016 so I want to replace the fronts but might as well all around right?
Again this is a toy and the plan is to get it fairly trust worthy and comfortable enough with it to be my “primary” vehicle and in a couple months/years replace the primary i3 with a 996 or 997 depending on our financial situation.
Word to the wise be careful with your free time browsing because used dealerships seem to be very motivated if you offer cash in the current economic climate. I was looking at both TJ’s and 996’s and cash seemed to bring down the asking price much quicker than any other counteroffer tactics.
What should I do to the TJ? What about name suggestions? Can anyone guess the color code?

Well purchased my friend. That is a good vehicle. Low miles too.
Is it 4wd? Also, how much did you pay for it?

Name suggestions: Jade, Mantis.
The best upgrade I’ve done to my Jeep in years is Tuffy-izing it. Center console without subwoofer is huge . And the rear trunk is very nice too.

Pricy but very worth it. I went for years without anything being stolen before I bought them, but being hit three times in just a few months was really stressful.

Brings back fond memories of my 2001 Wrangler Sport. M ine was Forest Green Pearl with a Dark Tan top—thought yours might be that color at first but it looks more blue the longer I look at it. Great vehicles and should be a lot of fun. I missed mine so much after I sold it that I bought a JKU 10 years later and plan on keeping it forever.
My $0.02 for a first mod is
beefier tires; maybe
some
Wrangler Trailrunners or Duratracs
in a slightly bigger
size that won’t require a lift or rub in turns.
All-seasons
just don’t look right on Wranglers in my opinion
.
Then I’d get
a Quadratec catalog and let the bad decisions start!

What are these going for with the Corona discount? Perfect Jeep in myind if you add a hardtop since I live in a snowy area...

Thanks! Yep 4wd and it engages hi and lo with very little effort. I paid right around $8000 for it. It was advertised at $12,900 which is obviously way too high. I had driven a couple that either looked great but drove like trash or drove fairly well but were pretty rough cosmetically for around the same ballpark. This one drove perfectly, clutch engagement, shifter, steering play. There are some worn bushings but suspension felt tight.

I actually had a 2016 JKUR 6-speed several years ago. Traded it for a Raptor though.
I’m partial to BFG KO2’s myself but whatever I can get the best deal on and looks good will be fine with me.

Thanks but my bank account doesn’t thank you. Those are nice. I actually installed an amp inside the center console where the sub was.

Congrats on the TJ, I tried to bu the lowest priced manual 4.0 I found last week, but missed the boat by about an hour ($3500, not rust, but a bazillion miles).

Most I looked at if at a dealership they wouldn’t drop below $10,000 no matter the condition. But I also live by the coast and wranglers are always available. But one unmolested and under 100,000 miles with the proper engine/transmission combo rare
ly comes across my alerts. This was originally from Waco and brought down to a sister dealership Being by the coast just before corona shutdown and sat.

You don’t live near a beach do you? The market near me you can’t even get a 4-cyl YJ for that money.

Sounds like a steal to me.

I’m in CO. I’ve never seen one that cheap here, but it also had 355k miles on it!

That is a great price for an 04 4wd, especially with that condition and mileage. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Keep us updated.

Looking good ! I’m in the market for a TJ myself, and it’s hard to find ones in my area without rust holes ( or diamond plate covering up suspected rust holes).

I live on the ocean. Can confirm.

Oh man as a kid I thought diamond plat ing was the business now I understand it was just the lazy way to cover body work.

The most common places for diamond plate match the most common places for rust. If a Jeep has DP, it’s always under the doors, often on the rear, and sometimes the front fenders too. I almost feel like it’s a dead giveaway.
Here are a couple of similar TJs currently for sale in Michigan- First, one without diamond plate:
And now, one with DP:
And neither ad include s good pics of the frame...

“What should I do to the TJ?”
Give it the Surrey Gala treatment. What’s the Surrey Gala treatment? Read this:
https://blog.kaiserwillys.com/willys-surrey-gala-jeep-1959-1964
And look at this:
Note that a modern version has already been done in blue:
So I suggest you do yours in green or pink.
ORRRR.... you can turn it into a Jeepney!!!!

No question, the pink.

Also note, there were also the ‘Pepsi Cola’ Surrey Jeeps you can get inspiration from:
